Dr. Sumedha Saraff-Rege is an ENT surgeon by profession and an author by calling. She believes medicine taught her to observe people, while literature taught her to understand them.
Born and raised in Belgaum, Karnataka, she developed a love for books and storytelling from an early age. She later completed an Advanced Diploma in Creative Writing with distinction from the Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning.
Over the years, she has written poetry, short stories, essays and literary articles. Her work has received recognition on Pratilipi, one of India’s largest digital storytelling platforms, and she has served as the Scientific Editor and later Executive Editor of The CheckUp, India’s first lifestyle magazine for healthcare professionals. In 2021, she founded IdeatingImagination.com, where she wrote about literature, culture, travel and everyday life before turning her focus to long-form fiction.
Her debut novel, The Compromise, was published by Qurate Books in 2024, followed by her poetry collection, Stars Without a Sky.
Now based in Thane, Maharashtra, Dr. Saraff-Rege draws inspiration from India’s rich civilisational heritage, mythology, folklore and history. Years of research into sixteenth-century Goa and the Saraswat community culminated in Sambhavami Yuge Yuge, a historical novel exploring faith, exile, memory and the enduring resilience of a community determined to preserve its spiritual and cultural inheritance.
Through her writing, she hopes to bring forgotten chapters of Indian history to contemporary readers with authenticity, compassion and a deep respect for the past.
